Evidence Technician 1 - City of Kirkland ( Job # 19-0130)

Maximum Salary: $31.75 per hour

Controls property to include property which was found, obtained from investigations and crime scenes in order to guarantee its security and integrity in court process. Controls and receives, stores, inventories and releases property and evidence to the appropriate personnel in accordance with State laws and City ordinances and codes.

Receives items of evidence; maintains inventory and custody of items; marks and stores in an orderly manner for security and quick retrieval. May assist in the collection and tagging of evidence at crime scene. Secures all evidence to maintain the proper chain of custody, preservation, storage and transportation for court presentation and testimony; release evidence for court purposes and laboratory analysis. Maintain the ability to testify in court on issues as required.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License. Must possess physical capacity to perform essential functions and related responsibilities.  Must be able to successfully complete the Department’s Training Program and must be able to obtain a police security clearance including medical, polygraph, psychological and background prior to hire.  

Note:   In addition to these minimum qualifications, to advance to Evidence Technician 2 classification, incumbent must successfully complete the Department's Training Program and maintain essential certifications.   Must successfully complete a Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission approved Crime Scene Evidence Technician or Advanced Evidence Technician certification course, or its equivalent.   The number of additional Evidence Technician 2 positions is at the sole discretion of the Police Chief.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous evidence/property job experience in a law enforcement environment preferred.

Hours of Work

6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday – Thursday  or  Tuesday - Friday

Hours may vary in the future to meet departmental needs.

Working Conditions & Physical Activities

Work is performed in a typical office and warehouse environment with most time spent sitting, standing or walking with noise from office machinery. May be required to drive to other locations. Duties include exposure to leaf marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, blood borne evidence, and other hazardous materials.
