The City of DuPont, Washington is seeking qualified, dynamic candidates to immediately fill the position of Assistant Chief of Police. 

Located just outside the gates of Joint Military Base Lewis-McCord, DuPont is situated 15 minutes south of Tacoma and 15 minutes north of Olympia along the I-5 corridor. A tremendous career opportunity awaits the next Assistant Chief. The Assistant Chief will report directly to, work in partnership with, and support the Office of the Chief of Police. The Assistant Chief needs to possess the ability to serve as Acting Chief of Police in the Chief's absence. 

The Assistant Chief needs excellent communication skills, both oral and written. The Assistant Chief will work with the Police Command Team and City leadership in an open, professional and collaborative manner. The Assistant Chief needs to be an enthusiastic, forward thinking, servant-oriented leader who embraces a supportive and respectful working environment. Team-building, diplomacy and being an upbeat, people-oriented ambassador for the department and City are a must for this position. The Assistant Chief must possess a solid track record of mentoring subordinates, while also having the willingness to continually improve as a leader. In addition, the Assistant Chief must be able to proactively contribute to a high-tempo, transformational leadership environment which is in the process of establishing an ethical mission-oriented, accountable, employee-centric policing culture.  Lastly, DuPont's next Assistant Police Chief should be committed to the future and long-term objectives of the Department and City.


 -Eight (8) years of law enforcement supervision at the level of a sergeant or higher with a general, full-authority police agency, (e.g: a patrol-based city police, county sheriff or state police).  Extensive experience in patrol operations, traffic management, criminal procedure, community policing and incident command is required.  Supervision in investigations, in addition to patrol operations, is highly preferred, and a minimum of an Associate's degree in criminal justice, police science or related field is required.  A Bachelor's degree, or the willing to obtain one, is highly preferred, or any combination of education and experience that 

 -Advanced training such as the FBI National Academy, Northwestern's School of Police Command and Staff, and/or Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO) is preferred.

 -Experience with administrative services, to include human resources, recruiting and hiring, training, dealing with the media, project management, conducting/overseeing investigations of employee conduct, and police budgets is strongly preferred. 

 -Experience in serving/working with military members and their families, and working in cooperation with local, state and federal partners.

 -Currently possess (or the ability to immediately obtain) a valid Washington State General Authority Peace Officer Certification, and pass a comprehensive background investigation and polygraph.
