Summary

The City of Kenmore is seeking undergraduate and graduate students to work on the City’s American with Disability Act (ADA) assessment project, various surface water management projects, and parks inventory within the City’s Public Works Department.  The internship positions are approximately 2 months in duration through the months of June to August, up to 40 hours/week, and may extend up to December 31, 2018 if needed. There is some flexibility around the daily and weekly schedule and the City will coordinate with school schedules and commitments as much as possible.  Two or more interns (either undergraduate, graduate or both) may be retained for the work.

 


Essential Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Inventory the City’s existing parks, sidewalks, curb ramps, other pedestrian facilities, and storm drainage facilities within the City’s right of way
  • Field measure the facilities inventoried and document via hand held tablet
  • Upload and modify, as needed, field data into City’s GIS system
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills

 

  • Student in a BA/BS program OR enrollment in an MA/MS graduate program in Geography, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Oceanography, or similar field
  • Availability to work 40 hours per week during summer months.   Positions may be extended for up to 20 hours per week September – December
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel and web-based programs
  • Ability to utilize handheld electronic equipment
  • Ability to conduct independent research
  • The internship is predominately an field position therefore the ability to stand, walk and/or sit for long periods of time is vital.
  • Ability to bend and lift objects up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in the office and in the field under normal weather conditions
  • Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record is required
